Overview

Reporting to the Executive Director, Market Access, the Director, Market Access – Trade & Managed Care will lead trade and managed care account management, provide strategic direction, engage in contract negotiation and be accountable for effective administration of managed care and trade operations across all products in Assertio’s portfolio. Alongside colleagues in Market Access, this position will lead strategic managed care and trade channel initiatives, wholesaler and 3PL contracting and operations, and develop and implement account-level business plans consistent with and in support of company goals and brand strategies. The Director, Market Access – Trade & Managed Care will lead the execution of Assertio’s distribution and managed care strategies and tactics, while managing trade operations, price changes, line extensions, NDC changes, product allocations, and recalls.

Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

 

  • Establish and maintain strong customer relationships with US Trade accounts including wholesalers, specialty distributors, retail chains, specialty pharmacies, integrated delivery networks (IDNs), third party logistics provider, compendia, HUB providers, and trade associations (e.g. HDMA, Asembia), data vendors
  • Establish and maintain strong customer relationships with US managed care accounts including PBMs, health plans, accountable care organizations, and managed care associations (e.g., PCMA, AMCP)
  • Plan and execute product launches throughout the managed care and trade channels
  • Manage product orders and inventory to ensure effective distribution of Company products minimizing any product distribution disruptions and insuring excellent service levels and optimal inventory days on hand with distributors
  • Develop and execute returns goods policy and monitor returns by customers
  • Manage and act as point person between company, managed care, trade customers and third-party logistics provider; Management of all communications to trade and managed care customers
  • Execute all product line extensions, pricing updates, NDC changes
  • Create and implement trade and distribution strategies aligning with organization goals and objectives
  • Develop and execute Distribution Service Agreement contracting strategies favorable to the organization and monitor and renew/renegotiate Trade channel agreements
  • In close collaboration with Managed Care Contracting colleagues, develop and execute managed care contracting strategies favorable to the organization and monitor and renew/renegotiate agreements
  • Drive high level partnership with Marketing and Sales on the planning and execution of brand plans
  • Develop and execute pharmacy-based programs to drive product growth including management and process enhancements with strategic pharmacy partners
  • Serve as Trade and Distribution expert to Senior leadership
  • Train Assertio’s sales organization on relevant components of managed care and trade strategies and operations

Qualifications

Education/Experience

  • BA/BS Degree in related field, MBA preferred
  • At least 5 years of successful account management in the biotech/pharmaceutical industry with extensive experience in contracting and negotiation of agreements with the top three national wholesalers and PBMs as well as with specialty pharmacies and third-party logistics provider
  • Comprehensive knowledge of U.S. pharmaceutical managed care, distribution, third party logistics, distribution regulations relating to controlled substances
  •  Proven track record of multiple products launches, NDC changes, pricing updates, and product recalls
  • Broad Trade and Managed Care customer contacts including national and regional PBMs, compendia, wholesalers, specialty distributors, third party logistics, retail pharmacies, specialty pharmacies, reimbursement management organizations (HUB), and national associations 
  • Proven track record of success in going above and beyond established measurements of goals and objectives
  • Strong knowledge of compliance and regulatory requirements
  • Experience in pain, inflammation, and oncology therapeutic areas a plus
  • 5-10 years of pharmaceutical field management experience or equivalent

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills with strong analytical, strategic, and organizational abilities
  • Ability to successfully hire, lead, and develop a motivated trade account management team
  • Strong computer skills and experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other related programs
  • Professional proactive demeanor

  • Analyze and control expenditures to conform to budgetary requirements
  • Adaptability and flexibility
  • Up to 75% travel
