Overview

Oversees the accounting operations and reporting activities in compliance with generally accepted accounting principles, maintains an adequate system of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of controls designed to mitigate risk and enhance the accuracy of the company’s reported financial results. Also responsible for treasury and cash management and coordination of tax compliance. In partnership with senior management helps develop financial strategies, board, audit committee and investor presentations and enhances and maintains corporate governance. This is an on-site role.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

  1. Financial Reporting
    • Oversee the accounting close process and preparation of accurate monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements.
    • Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and other relevant accounting standards.
    • Coordinate the financial reporting process, including the timely submission of quarterly and annual reports to regulatory authorities (e.g., SEC in the United States).
    • Oversee the company’s equity plans
  2. Compliance:
    • Ensure compliance with all relevant financial regulations and reporting requirements, including the Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX) and other securities laws.
    • Collaborate with internal and external auditors to facilitate audits and reviews.
    • Monitor and communicate changes in accounting regulations and standards that may affect the company's financial reporting.
  3. Internal Controls:
    • Establish and maintain effective internal controls over financial reporting to safeguard company assets and ensure the integrity of financial data.
    • Identify and address any weaknesses or deficiencies in internal controls and develop remediation plans as necessary.
  4. Treasury and Cash Management:
    • Manage the company's cash flow, liquidity, and working capital.
    • Oversee banking relationships and ensure efficient cash management practices.
  5. Tax Compliance:
    • Coordinate tax compliance and planning efforts to ensure that the company complies with tax laws and optimizes its tax position.
  6. Team Management:
    • Supervise and lead a team of finance and accounting professionals, including accountants and financial analysts.
    • Provide guidance, mentorship, and performance evaluations for team members.
  7. Financial Strategy:
    • Collaborate with senior management in financial strategy development and decision-making, providing valuable insights and recommendations.
    • Contribute to financial planning and budgeting processes.
  8. Risk Management:
    • Identify and assess financial risks and implement strategies to mitigate them.
    • Ensure the company's insurance needs are met and manage the relationship with insurance providers.
  9. Financial Systems and Technology:
    • Oversee the implementation and maintenance of financial systems, accounting software, and reporting tools.
    • Stay up-to-date with technological advancements that can improve financial processes and reporting.
  10. Investor Relations:
    • Collaborate with the investor relations team to ensure that financial information is communicated effectively to shareholders and potential investors.
  11. Corporate Governance:
    • Play a role in maintaining and enhancing corporate governance standards within the company, including oversight of the Board of Directors' financial responsibilities.
    • Present quarterly results and financial statements to Audit Committee.
  12. Special Projects:
    • Participate in or lead special financial projects, such as mergers and acquisitions, divestitures, and strategic initiatives.

Qualifications

Education/Experience

  • BA/BS in Accounting or Finance. CPA is required. Master/MBA preferred
  • 12+ years of accounting management experience
  • Biotech industry experience/Big 4 experience highly preferred
  • Experience within publicly traded company required
  • Thorough technical accounting knowledge of issues, procedures and practices
  • Experience with SEC reporting and GAAP accounting
  • Excellent systems and operational skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office products, and knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics and Equity Edge

  • Ability to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal.
  • Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
  • Standing: Remaining upright on the feet.
  • Pushing: Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust
  • Lifting: Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position of up to 20 lbs. on occasion
